Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Do all Sears retirees get the Kmart discount?
A. All Sears retirees who retired before April 1, 2003 will be eligible for the Kmart discount. Sears retirees who retired after April 1, 2003 from Sears Corporate, Product Repair Services, CCN, SLS, SHIP, sears.com, or from the Sears Full-line, Sears Essentials or Sears Grand organizations will also be eligible for the Kmart discount. Eligibility charts are located at the end of the Sears Holdings discount policy.

Q. Do Kmart retirees get a discount at Sears?
A. Yes, eligible Kmart retirees receive a retiree discount at Sears. Eligibility charts are located at the end of the Sears Holdings discount policy.

Q: What does tax law have to do with our discount?
A: Federal tax law governs tax-free employee discount programs. In order for SHC to offer a tax-free discount program, we must remain compliant with the tax law – non-compliance could result in taxable income to the associate/retiree and financial penalties to SHC.

Because SHC has a variety of businesses operated through many different legal entities, associates/retirees who work/worked in one line of business may not be eligible for a discount in all other business lines. The tax law groups certain types of businesses together and SHC must use those groupings to determine eligibility. Eligibility charts are located at the end of the Sears Holdings discount policy.

Q. Can you clarify which associates/retirees are eligible for the Sears and Kmart online discount?
A. All Sears retirees who retired before April 1, 2003 will be eligible for the Kmart discount, including kmart.com.

All Kmart retirees have the same discount as is available to current associates in the line of business from which they retired. Eligibility charts are located at the end of the Sears Holdings discount policy.

Retiree discount questions including eligibility should be directed to the Retiree Service Center (1-800-762-7327).

Q. Can I get a discount at Sears Canada?
A. No, there is currently no discount privilege between Sears and Sears Canada.

Q. Can you clarify the policy regarding the use of coupons?
A. Purchases made using promotional coupons are not eligible for the discount. Purchases made using reward certificates, such as Sears Premier rewards or KidVantage rewards, or Family & Friends discount shopping passes, continue to be eligible for the discount. Some product restrictions may apply. The discount is available in conjunction with Craftsman Club events; however, the discount is not available with purchases made using Craftsman Club promotional coupons.
